Artist Inquiry
Art in the Neighbourhood is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run collective of dedicated artists from all areas of Ottawa. It is not a requirement to live in the Alta Vista neighbourhood to become a member. We aim to have artists who are dedicated to their art form and want to bring it to the neighbourhood. Together we bring affordable art to community members. We share the cost of renting space, liability insurance, hosting our website, and related advertising.
To become a member an application is required and then this is juried by a group of 9 members that forms our Selection Committee.
Before going any further, be aware that volunteer time, in some form, is part of this collective. That is how we keep costs down and support this group.
Also note, we are a small collective and we can't take everyone. Everything is done on volunteer hours and if we don't take you, it could be for one of the following reasons:
• your category of work is already represented
• we don't have any room in our collective at the moment
• we don't have time to add another member
To be sure, we would like to take everyone and celebrate their creativity! We want to have the capacity to serve everyone to the best of our ability and that means restricting our numbers.
In the meantime, happy creating!
Art in the Neighbourhood is a "boutique" style gallery group. As we would like to stay on the small side, not all categories might be open when you apply. That's because we don't want to saturate one medium but rather have representation of as many mediums as possible. So, having said that it is possible that the medium you want to apply to might be full for the time being. If a member retires from our group, then a specific category may open up. It is always best to send us an email directly to make your inquiry about this.
As a member you can definitely choose in which shows you wish to take part.
Having said that, the space in each of our shows is limited, so when you wish to be in a show register early. Registrations are time stamped and spaces will be filled on a first come, first served bases.
Our mission is to showcase original one-of-a-kind creations. If you do that you will be in good company.
You will need to provide links to your IG, FB and website, so your artwork can be reviewed by our Selection Committee.
A: As a member of Art in Neighbourhood, an artist collaborative collective, you will have several responsibilities as well as numerous benefits.
As a nonprofit, volunteer-run collective, we ask that each member contributes their time and effort by volunteering before shows and during shows. This collaborative spirit ensures that every event runs smoothly and that all members benefit from the collective effort.
Responsibilities may include tasks such as setting up the venue and gallery space, distributing print material, greeting visitors, handling your own sales, and promoting the entire group through social media.
In terms of benefits, being a member of Art in Neighbourhood offers you a permanent on-line platform to showcase your unique, original work in a cooperative environment where art is priced reasonably to be accessible to a broad audience. Plus, access to two shows per year and other opportunities for inclusion to events Members are invited to by other groups.
During our shows, you'll have the opportunity to engage with other talented artists, potentially collaborate on projects, and gain exposure to a diverse group of art enthusiasts and buyers. The collective nature of the group means that every member’s input is valued, fostering a supportive and collaborative community that thrives on shared success.
