Atmospheres Apollinaire is an evocation of la belle epoque Paris at the turn of the 20th century where poets, painters and composers from across Europe gathered. This novel is a lyrical journey that follows in the footsteps of the brilliant French poet, Guillaume Apollinaire, who embodied the spirit of his age. It was short-listed for the Governor General’s literary award and the Trillium Book Award.
This collection of lyrical poems is both minimalist and profound. These deceptively simple poems touch on a wide variety of subjects: the Cathedral of Chartres (built in silence), Monet’s gardens, a Cape Cod graveyard and its fascinating contents, the nature of a simple button, the poets of old China, as well as a number of excellent haiku.
In this novel set in 1769 Venice, Michele Archenti, publisher of erotic poetry and former priest and Devil’s Advocate, is called upon to defend his friend Rodolpho against charges of heresy. Archenti must navigate the murky political waters as well as the less frequented canals of Venice to outsmart the ambitious new inquisitor from Rome.
This collection of short essays touches on a wide variety of subjects that reflect on what it is to be human. From Paleolithic caves, to the history of early photography, to the nature of art, and the origins of the alphabet, these essays explore global cultures through the ages.
Walking Backwards: Grand Tours, Minor Visitations, Miraculous Journeys and a Few Good Meals is Mark Frutkin’s literary return to ten cities and what happened there. Whether inadvertently smuggling ‘cloth’ into Istanbul, reading poetry in New Delhi to a crowd expecting a world-famous pianist, or wandering endlessly through Mantua searching for a non-existent hotel on a street that has fallen off the map, these travel stories reveal the magic at the heart of all travel.
Where Angels Come to Earth: An Evocation of the Italian Piazza, is a stunning visual and lyrical journey through the Italian piazzas which serve as gathering places for local residents. The combined creative voices of renowned photographer Vincenzo Pietropaolo and writer Mark Frutkin come together to present a poetic and thought-provoking look at the richness and diversity of Italian culture.
