Lindsay Watson is a contemporary oil painter based in Ottawa who finds inspiration in the small, beautiful moments of everyday life. Working from her own photographs—of toys on the floor, kitchen scenes, or landscapes—she transforms familiar imagery into contemporary oil paintings that range from nearly abstract to photorealistic. Using brushes, palette knives, squeegees, spatulas, and found tools, she brings a fresh, experimental approach to a classical medium.
Influenced by genre painters such as Vermeer and Mary Pratt, Lindsay believes simple imagery can express complex emotion. Her work combines light, colour, and varied paint application to create scenes that are playful, tender, or quietly brooding. A BFA graduate of the University of Ottawa, she has exhibited in Ottawa, Kingston, and Toronto, and teaches art to adults and children through several local organizations.
